Every year tonnes of CO2 is released into the atmosphere by the engines of pot fishing vessels in Britain alone. The purpose of this project is to find the most effective method of reducing this figure and to design a solution to suit this method.
The method which has been devised in this project is to alter the hauling system aboard such vessels. By using an electric system rather than an engine powered hydraulic system, the CO2 output can be reduced by up to a third.
The eco-haul system uses a battery powered electric hauler and does not require the main boat engine. The batteries are charged overnight using a 'green' energy source and thus the system produces no emissions whilst running. The hauler is controlled as efficiently as possible using an electronic control system.
I'm interested in eco-design and engineering. I hope to move into eco-engineering as a career path and to use my design skills and knowledge of software to succeed thereof.
Whichever career path I take I'm very keen to learn and use software day to day.
