Post operative arm brace
Traditionally following elbow surgery or injury, patients have relied on simple slings or inflexible fibre casts for support. These do not address the particular problems of such injuries, as they can become degraded over time, are uncomfortable, and do not allow for rehabilitation exercise. Further changing a cast is an expensive and time consuming process for patients and medical staff.
The Air-form arm splint is a lightweight adaptable support designed for the treatment of post operative elbow surgery or injury. Engineered to provide ultimate comfort and flexibility throughout the patient’s recovery process, it allows the user to control and manage their healing process.
The ventilated rigid outer shell provides protection and holds the arm in a stable position, whilst the inner lining of four unique expanding air bladders provides the patient with both comfort and the ability to custom fit the splint to accommodate their particular treatment. A safety pressure gauge informs the user that the bladders are correctly inflated.
I particularly enjoy developing solutions to real problems, and developing the Air-form arm brace allowed me to work on a design that has a practical user focus, a factor I hope to continue in my future design career.
