Self-Adjusting Rucksack Harness
Everyone has a different back length; this is obviously a challenge when designing rucksacks. To combat this problem designers have come up with adjustable harness that can adapt to fit your back length. Unfortunately current systems are complicated to adjust and often the end user is not fully aware how to get their pack to fit their back properly. The challenge: to design a self- adjusting rucksack harness.
By simply pulling the shoulder straps, the harness adjusts itself to your back length. Once the harness feels comfortable, simply lock it off in place by pulling the “quick lock” and you are good to go. If you want to adjust the harness slightly, simply unlock the “quick lock” adjust and lock again.
The shoulder straps and scapular pad are connected together by tape. As you adjust the shoulder straps, you are causing the scapular pad to slide up and down adjusting to your back length. It is impossible to over adjust the scapular pad, and if pad is adjusted to be too large the shoulder straps will fell uncomfortable.
Being brought up in the Lake District I have always had a keen interest for the outdoors. Climbing and the mountains is my main passion and I have been very lucky to be able to combine this with design.
I am certainly interested in designing products for the outdoors, but also very interested in sustainability and big social issues. Being involved in the design of products or systems that aim to tackle these things would be extremely rewarding.
