FOODsense
‘Because it’s just good sense’
Every year in the UK we throw away 1/3 of the food we buy which amounts to £10 billion annually (WRAP report 2009). Not only is this a waste of money, it is a waste of energy, precious resources and the food waste releases methane which contributes to global warming.
FOODsense aims to reduce this problem by 60% by enabling the consumer to easily manage their food and to buy and cook in the correct quantities. FOODsense exists within a wider framework which is designed to facilitate a dialogue between the consumer and retailer and tackle the problem at large.
FOODsense is a touchscreen-type device which includes a scanner which reads 2D barcodes. As you shop, you scan items and the information is kept on a database. FOODsense will alert you if you have an item going out of date and suggest to you how you could use that item.
I plan to undertake postgraduate education at Cambridge University and afterwards set up my own organisation specialising in commercialising innovation. I also wish to work within the automotive industry where my interests lie in finding a solution to the problem of transport sustainability in the 21st century.
