HEXPATCH
Potholes often go months without being fixed and when they are, ineffective methods are used. This results in not just accidents and damage to cars, but considerable harm to the structure of our already crumbling roads. In 2008, the 1.5m+ potholes on our roads cost motorists over £400m in repairs to their cars.
HEXPATCH is a hexagonal plate which can be tessellated to fit a wide range of the most common road defects. Outlined in my project documentation is how it should be utilised as part of an improved roads maintenance strategy, allowing councils to better use their resources and extend road life expectancy.
By providing an immediately trafficable surface, HEXPATCH allows councils to deal with potholes on-site as soon as they are identified. Its strengthened Aluminium construction gives a consistent, reusable and portable patch which prevents pothole-associated accidents and damage until an effective repair to the road can be made.
I really enjoy the setting up of large projects and investigating unique market opportunities, hence my willingness to take on “the pothole challenge”. Through doing PDE I now have a greater appreciation for how creativity and continuing education form a large part of modern business, rather than being distinct career paths.
