RehaBed
The Problem
Each year around 2,000 people in the UK alone suffer from traumatic spinal cord injury. Currently, patients are expected to lie flat on a bed, sometimes for a period of up to 8 weeks, before rehabilitation can begin.
The Solution
The GOER is a rehabilitation device, developed by Glasgow University PhD student Ms Juan Fang, which passively moves the legs of a spinal injury patient in order to provide thorough physiotherapy when they are still in bed, thus shortening the overall recovery process. The GOER can be used on a range of beds through use of the versatile RehaBed - a frame that supports the GOER and allows for safe use for both patient and carer.
My Transition
One of the main advantages of PDE is the wide variety of skills that it introduces you to. Resultantly, there is a large choice of career paths I can choose to follow. I plan to study a post-graduate course after PDE in order to further develop my skills before I move on.
